  Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my photos to Custom Video Keepsakes?

Carriers such as UPS, Federal Express or even the United States Post Office are all capable of handling your valuable pictures and keepsakes.  No matter which service you choose, it's always best to make copies before sending the originals through the mail.  That's why we suggest you send them on CD-R disk.  Insurance never covers loss of memories!    Our incentive to you is a discount per picture if you scan them and save them to a CD-R, or make copies of the disks you receive when you get those precious memories from the photo mart.   Check out our discount pricing on photo disks.

Please print and complete this order/agreement form first, then enclose all your photos, CDs, agreement form and check or money order in a padded envelope or secure box so your photos do not bend or suffer damage.  Send everything to:

I’m not sure of which pictures to choose or which order to place them in.

That depends on your theme.  Is it a graduation?  You may want a Musical Montage that is in chronological order.  Start with the baby pictures and end with the graduation.  Is your theme for a pre-wedding video?  Choose pictures that chronicle the lives of the soon-to-be bride and groom.   Number the pictures on disk in the order you'd like to see them in the Montage starting with 0001, 0002, 0003, etc.  If you are sending them in hard copy form, put them in order in a small baggie separated for each song title.  Zip-lock them and use a ribbon or rubber band to secure their order before packing them up for deliver.

Can I include other items in my Custom Video Keepsake?

Yes, indeed! You may include anything that can be scanned.  (Nothing larger than an 8x10, please) Newspaper announcements or articles, special ticket stubs from concerts or programs, greeting cards, letters, licenses, etc., use your own imagination!

I want to save money on the scanning process.  How do I do that?

To make a photo digital use a high end scanner that is capable of scanning at 300 DPI (dots per inch) to ensure the best quality.  Save the image in a JPEG format.  Don't worry about enhancements such as color or red eye.  We'll take care of that for you.  When you are finished scanning all of your items, simply copy and paste to a writable cd-r and then finalize it before sending it to us.

How will I know how many songs to use?

We like to take into account the tempo of the music.  If it's a fast moving song you'll want to look at each picture fairly quickly.  5 seconds is a good start.  If it's a slow, romantic song, 7 or 8 seconds might be better.  Here's the formula:  First, check out the length of your song.  For instance, "Dreaming of You"  is 5 minutes and 2 seconds long.  The music starts to fade at 4 minutes and 48 seconds.  That's where we'll start to fade the last pictures as well.  Take 4 minutes times 60 seconds plus the 48 seconds and you get 288 seconds.  Now decide how long you want to see each picture as it relates to the tempo.  This song has a medium tempo so we'd like to see the pictures for about 6 seconds or so.  Take 288 and divide by 6, you need 48 pictures.  It's that easy.

When can I expect to receive my Custom Video Keepsake?

Generally, projects that need to be shipped back to the customer will take longer than those that drop off their pictures who live in the Omaha area.  If you are out of town, figure a 2-3 week turn around.  If you have a large amount of pictures to be scanned, allow even more time. If you are in the Omaha Metro area, we can get your project back to you in less than a week on most occasions.

Whose music can I use.

To avoid copyright infringement, the only music we can use is your own.  Just send us your original recordings on CDs with your selections noted and we'll send them back with your final Custom Video Keepsake.

What kind of payments do you accept?

We accept checks or money orders. Please make checks payable to “Custom Video Keepsakes”. There is a $35.00 fee for returned checks. We also accept all major credit card payments via PayPal, a safe and secure online payment center. PayPal instructions will be sent to you via email upon receiving your purchase order and completing the project.

How long will copies be available for me to purchase?

We archive all pictures as well as videos and make 3 backups!  Redundancy is key!  As long as we are in business, you can get a copy.  Simply call or email us and we'll get it to you ASAP.

What if my DVD does not play?

It helps to know what type of DVD your player will play before we finalize your DVD.  Your owners manual is your best bet here.  If you own a multi-drive DVD player, you're safe either way.  If you're not sure and can't find the manual, check this site out for compatibility with your player. www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.
